Confirmation of Ukrainian citizenship for the child

According to Article 7 of the Law of Ukraine "On Citizenship", a child is considered a citizen if:

• • parents or one of whose parents were citizens of Ukraine at the time of her/his birth, is a citizen of Ukraine;
• • was born on the territory of Ukraine from stateless persons who legally reside on the territory of Ukraine and are citizens of Ukraine;
• • was born outside of Ukraine to stateless persons who permanently legally reside in the territory of Ukraine, and did not acquire the citizenship of another state by birth, is a citizen of Ukraine;
• • was born on the territory of Ukraine from foreigners who legally reside on the territory of Ukraine, and did not acquire the citizenship of either of the parents by birth, is a citizen of Ukraine;
• • was born on the territory of Ukraine, one of whose parents was granted refugee status in Ukraine or asylum in Ukraine, and did not acquire the citizenship of either parent by birth or acquired the citizenship of the parent who was granted refugee status in Ukraine or asylum in Ukraine by birth, is a citizen of Ukraine;
• • was born on the territory of Ukraine from a foreigner and a stateless person who legally resides on the territory of Ukraine, and did not acquire the citizenship of the parent who is a foreigner and a citizen of Ukraine by birth.

Necessary documents:

1. Application for registration of acquisition of Ukrainian citizenship by birth;
2. Copy of the person's birth certificate;
3. One of the documents depending on the citizenship of the parents:
• • a copy of the passport of a citizen of Ukraine or another document confirming the fact that one of the person's parents was a citizen of Ukraine at the time of his/her birth;
• • copies of permanent residence permits in Ukraine for stateless persons or other documents confirming that at the time of the person's birth, his/her parents were stateless persons and lived legally in the territory of Ukraine;
• • copies of documents that confirm the fact that the person's parents are citizens of another state (other states) at the time of his birth;
• • copies of documents confirming the legal residence of the person's parents in the territory of Ukraine at the time of his birth;
• • a copy of the refugee certificate issued to one of the parents of the person who has been granted refugee status in Ukraine, or a copy of the document confirming the fact that one of the parents of the person has been granted asylum in Ukraine;
4. In some cases, it is necessary to submit a declaration that a person has not acquired the citizenship of either of his parents by birth.

The deadline for consideration of an application for the acquisition of citizenship for a child is up to three months.

How to get the service?

1. Collect the necessary documents;
2. Contact the territorial division of the State Migration Service of Ukraine at the place of residence of the child or one of his parents or another legal representative of the person;
3. Submit an application together with the necessary documents;
4. Obtain a certificate of registration of a person as a citizen of Ukraine (which is the basis for issuing a passport of a citizen of Ukraine) in the territorial body or subdivision of the State Migration Service of Ukraine at the place of residence.
